Del Valle is located at the southeastern side of Austin mostly known as home for Bergstrom Air Force Base, until the base was closed a few years ago, now it is Austin-Bergstrom Intl. Airport. Del Valle has its own school district, which includes Southeast Travis County and the communities of Creedmoor, Del Valle, Elroy, Garfield, Hornsby Bend, Montopolis and Mustang Ridge. Del Valle is still considered a rural area by many but Austin, Bastrop and Lockhart offer employment, shopping, restaurants, theaters and other entertainment. Southeast Metro Park, which is located to the east of Del Valle on hwy. 71, has numerous youth and adult baseball, softball and soccer fields, play scapes, and a hike and bike trail. McKinney Falls State Park is just a couple of miles south on highway 183. Del Valle is rapidly expanding due in part to its proximity to downtown Austin, the Austin-Bergstrom Intl. Airport, and the extension of state highway 130 which will run from Georgetown to Sequin. There are also plans to widen and straighten FM 812 and 973. Del Valle is also convenient to major employers, such as AMD, Spansion, ABIA and IRS. There are numerous subdivisions here already, including Los Cielos, Berdoll Farms, Stoney Ridge, Vistas of Stony Ridge and others. These include builders such as Mainstreet, Centex Homes, KB Homes, and Lennar Homes.
Many new mixed-use projects are being planned and proposed in this area including a project on 2500 acres west of the Texas 130 toll road near McKinney Falls Parkway. This is just one of the many real estate developments proposed for this area in southeastern Travis County, many of them have already started to build, with many more in the planning stage. With forethought in the planning and development of this area, Del Valle is and will continue to be a great asset to the City of Austin and Travis County.
